Carboplatin Injection 150mg

Carboplatin is a platinum-containing antineoplastic agent used in the treatment of advanced ovarian carcinoma and small cell lung cancer, and is also used off-label in a range of other solid tumor regimens under oncologist direction. It works by forming cross-links with DNA in a manner similar to cisplatin, interfering with DNA replication and triggering cell death in rapidly dividing cancer cells. Compared with cisplatin, carboplatin is generally associated with less nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and nausea, though myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression) is typically more pronounced and dose-limiting.

Carboplatin Injection IP 150mg is supplied as a 150mg/15ml single-use vial, packed for hospital and oncology-center use, and is intended strictly for administration by, or under the direct supervision of, a qualified physician experienced in cancer chemotherapy, in a facility equipped to manage the complications of treatment — never for self-administration or use outside a supervised oncology setting.

• Nausea and vomiting: common; antiemetic premedication is typically used per institutional protocol
• Electrolyte disturbances: hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypocalcemia, and hypomagnesemia have been reported and should be monitored
• Pregnancy/breastfeeding: carboplatin can cause fetal harm and is generally contraindicated in pregnancy; breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment
• Hazardous drug: classified as a cytotoxic agent — requires safe-handling precautions during preparation, administration, and disposal in line with institutional and regulatory guidance
• Disclose all other medications and prior chemotherapy/radiotherapy history to the treating physician, as these can affect dosing and toxicity risk

Overdose Information

There is no known specific antidote for carboplatin overdose. Overdosage is expected to primarily manifest as exaggerated bone marrow suppression and its complications (infection, bleeding), along with worsened nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, ototoxicity, or other toxicities associated with the drug.

Because carboplatin is administered only in a supervised clinical setting, suspected overdose should be managed immediately by the treating medical team, with supportive care, close monitoring of blood counts and organ function, and management of specific complications as they arise.

Storage Instructions

• Store as directed on the pack/vial labeling, generally at controlled room temperature and protected from light
• Do not freeze unless specifically indicated by the manufacturer
• This is a single-use vial with no antimicrobial preservative — any unused portion should be discarded after use, per institutional protocol
• Keep out of reach and sight of children and unauthorized personnel; handle and store per hazardous-drug guidelines
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Dispose of unused or expired product as cytotoxic waste, in line with local regulatory requirements — never via household waste or wastewater
